Help with selecting pieces: While many people know they don't want "here comes the bride" on an organ, they often don't have specific musical selections in mind for their wedding ceremony. We can work with you to select appropriate music for your ceremony, either through the group's standard repertoire or with special requests. Generally, the pieces which should be programmed are:

  • Any final piece of prelude music Special music for the seating of the mothers (if desired)
  • A processional for family or bridesmaids (if desired)
  • The Bride's Processional
  • Any Musical Interludes (if desired)
  • Recessional

We can help with selecting pieces either over the phone (with examples played on the piano) or in person. Wedding CDs are available from music stores and libraries. These contain many good examples of the pieces listed under the Wedding Repertoire link on this website.

Other selections

In addition to music for wedding ceremonies, Newbury Chamber music can provide background or concert music for your event. The standard Baroque and Classical repertoire is augmented with Viennese Waltzes, Ragtime, Broadway Tunes, Opera, and Pops. With the exception of the Viennese Waltzes, this music is not suitable for dancing. Some of the Pops repertoire requires a keyboard instrument. This may be a piano, available at the venue, or a harpsichord which we can provide.

Unusual requests

We feel that it is important for you to have the music you want for your event. We will decline work if we feel that we are not an appropriate ensemble for your requirements. We will let you know if we have concerns about any selection or request which you make. However, since this is your event, we will play what you request as long as it is within our capabilities. We've played some pretty unusual requests and frequently they work fine and are remembered as something quite special. As an example of an unusual request which was not a problem: an MIT professor with a wedding ceremony at the MIT Chapel requested that the final piece of prelude music be Phil Spector's "goin' to the Chapel." We don't think a lot of string quartets have played this at a wedding ceremony. It worked. It was special. It was memorable.
